Motorola might not be the first in line to bring the latest tricks to its official Camera app, but it has been committed to bringing these features well in time. The company recently updated the Moto Camera app with quirks like selfie portrait, spot color isolation, and watermarks. Now, it has a new update which brings Playmoji-style AR stickers through Google Lens integration, a leveler UI, live filters, and more.
These changes apply to a host of Motorola devices including the Moto Z3, Moto Z3 Play, Moto X4, Moto G7 Play, Moto G6, Moto G5s Plus, and Moto One. Here’s all that’s new in the Moto Camera update:
- Live filters for all devices
- Manual mode persistency, histogram, and Kelvin temperature for all devices
- Leveler UI to properly align photo captures for all devices
- AR Stickers. This will be released through the Google Lens app in late February. Moto Z3 and Moto Z3 Play devices are eligible.
- Bug fixes for all devices
Among the changes, manual mode persistency lets you set the Moto Camera app to launch in Pro mode by default, and with the histogram and color temperature settings, you can ensure that the image has a uniform white balance throughout. The leveler uses two intersecting lines to help you keep the photos straight.
While the Moto Z3 and Moto Z3 Play had already received AR stickers in the previous update, the changelog hints that now, AR Stickers “will be released through the Google Lens app.” This can mean that the mentioned devices will get support for Playground – the AR sticker feature currently exclusive to Google Pixel devices. We’ll know for certain when the feature arrives later this month.
However, the feature will work only on devices with decent hardware support for Google ARCore, which means Moto G7 Play, Moto G6, Moto G5s Plus, Moto X4, and Motorola One are out of luck. If you have one of these, you’ll have to be satisfied with the Live Filters.
However, Google Playground has also been ported for other Android smartphones with ARCore support and running on Android Pie. So if you have one, you can try them.
