Join is one of the most advanced Android applications. It offers users seamless synchronization between multiple devices. I use the app on my Windows laptop and Android phone to easily exchange webpages and files. Thankfully, the developer is consistent with the updates and never fails to surprise us. Just now, he announced that Join will soon be getting a feature that will transfer locally stored APK files to other devices. In fact, the feature is already available in the 2.1.0-beta 3 version of the application.
The developer announced the beta update on Reddit’s /r/tasker subreddit. You can see the demo of the feature below, but let me explain how it works. First, you select the device you want to install the application on. Then, you select one of the applications installed on your device. Join will extract an APK file and send it to the device you selected earlier. You can only send one application at a time for now. Here’s a demo of the feature:
As you can see in the video, you can also use the feature to send or receive APK files from the PC. Like many features in Join, this one doesn’t require root access either. I can already see it benefiting the testing environments with lots of devices. Integrating with Tasker (which is also maintained by Join’s developer, by the way) and automating the process to your liking should also be a piece of cake.
As I’ve already mentioned, the feature is currently in the beta stage, so some hiccups or instability issues may occur. We currently don’t know when it will be moved to the stable channel, but we’ll keep you updated when it does.
