Google Play Music is Google’s music streaming and playing service that is available on a very large number of Android devices. Google Play Music allows for users to upload up to 50,000 music files for free. These files are matched with Google’s music catalog, allowing users to then stream or download the tracks as per their convenience. As a result of its features, availability and ease-of-use, Google Play Music has become the preferred music application for many users.
However, the app is reportedly suffering from a peculiar bug that prevents it from casting newly released music tracks to connected products. As reported by Android Authority, if you attempt to cast a song released in 2019 to a streaming product through Google Play Music, the song will fail to play on the connected product. This bug has been experienced with Google Home, Lenovo Smart Display and NVIDIA Shield, and it is likely that it affects other connected speakers too.
What makes the bug strange is that you get a different result if you first stream the music to your phone and then cast to a speaker. In such a case, the music plays as one would expect. But when you move onto another recently released track, the connected device will be unable to play the track.
The bug is demonstrated in the video below:
This bug is related to Google Play Music rather than the connected speakers as the same issue is not experienced with other streaming services such as Spotify and Soundcloud, both of which can flawlessly stream music through Google Home. The bug has been encountered in Europe and India so far.
Google’s support team has confirmed the issue, but the company has not made any official statement about it yet. Hopefully, Google is able to solve the issue through an app update.
