Remember Google Inbox? It’s still technically available until March later this year, but Google announced its shutdown back in September of last year so most of you have probably moved on by now. Unfortunately for its users, Inbox was basically a beta testing ground for Google to create new features that would later be introduced into Gmail. Speaking of Gmail, it recently received a major redesign that is rolling out to devices now, and according to a Redditor on the /r/Google subreddit, we’ll be seeing more of Inbox’s useful features reach Gmail at some point.

The above screenshot was shared by the Redditor who claims it came from a Google Internal Testing build. We can clearly see the new Material Theme redesign that just rolled out, but we can also see bundles (“Tech news”), reminders, and pinned items. It’s unclear if reminders are going to be a part of the Google Tasks system or if they are going to be using the Google Assistant reminders. We hope this leak isn’t fake, because features like these are why Inbox had so many fans.
For fans of Google’s Inbox application, Inboxit by XDA Senior Member SagiLo is a viable alternative to replace one of its most used features while Google prepares to launch these new features in Gmail. According to /u/moodio, there’s still a lot of work to be done by the Gmail development team in porting these features over. Given that Inbox is shutting down in March, it would make sense to have all (or most) its features ported by then, although an announcement at Google I/O 2019 isn’t out of the picture either.
