Initial Anthem sales in the UK paint a troubled picture for EA’s freshly released online action-RPG, if analyst Daniel Ahmad is to be believed.
According to Ahmad, who goes by the name of ZhugeEX on the ResetEra forums, the game only sold around 10% of what the original Destiny sold in its first week after launch. Truth be told, this doesn’t include digital sales, but this means that only 40.000 Anthem copies were sold in the UK. The original Destiny sold 417.000 copies in the UK in its first week across all platforms, including PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PS3. In contrast, Destiny 2 sold 175.000 copies in the UK in first week. As with the Anthem sales, these numbers only include physical sales.
Even more pressing might be the fact that Mass Effect Andromeda’s first week sales were more than double that of Anthem.
Of course, there’s still the possibility that digital Anthem sales make up for the disappointing retail sales, but the pained picture so far looks troublesome. Let’s hope that sales in the US sales don’t mirror those in the UK.
Anthem is out now for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
