Digital Wellbeing arrives on the Nokia 6 and Nokia 8 with Android Pie

HMD Global has been committed to bringing the latest software updates to most of its Android devices. The first generation Nokia 6, which was launched with Android 7.0 Nougat, recently got the Android 9 Pie update along with February’s security patch. As part of the update, Nokia 6 has also received some of the features exclusive to the Google Pixel and Android One devices.

As per Nokiapoweruser, Android Pie‘s Digital Wellbeing feature comes pre-installed with the latest update for Nokia 6. With this feature, users can be aware of their usage per app and cut down distractions or excessive usage. Apart from Nokia 6, the Nokia 8 is also receiving the feature with the stable Android Pie update which began rolling out to users in December last year.

Although Digital Wellbeing has been limited to the Google Pixel lineup and smartphones affiliated to the Android One program, Nokia is reportedly making efforts and working with Google to bring the feature to older devices. With the latest updates, both devices should also get features like Adaptive Battery and Adaptive Brightness, Android Pie navigation bar (which could change further with Android Q), and other UI improvements.

The Digital Wellbeing feature shows you daily stats like the time spent within each app, the number of notifications, and the number of times you unlock your smartphone. Wind Down, which is built into Digital Wellbeing, filters out unnecessary notifications at night and turns the display gray in order to help you disengage easily. In the upcoming Android Q update, Google might also allow users to track their web usage by keeping a log of time spent while browsing a particular website with Google Chrome.

Even if your smartphone is not officially supported, you can install Digital Wellbeing on most Android Pie devices without rooting them. If the method does not work for your smartphone, you can look up for possible solutions exclusive to your device on our Forums.

Meanwhile, if your Nokia 6 or the Nokia 8 is already running on Android 9 Pie, you can find Digital Wellbeing within Settings. In case you don’t see it, you might need to install the latest version of the app manually from the Google Play Store to get things started.
