Motorola’s software upgrade program hasn’t been particularly stellar, with a lot of devices still running older versions of Android with no hope for an upgrade in sight. Things have gotten marginally better in the past, and some of the more recent devices get major OTA upgrades faster compared to their predecessors. Today, an XDA Developers user spotted what appears to be an Android Pie build for some users in Brazil.
The update comes with the version number PPS29.55-10. The update includes some “bug fixes and stability improvements” along with the January 2019 Android security patch. At this point, it isn’t clear if the update is an Android Pie soak test, but judging by the size, it very likely is. Motorola often Soak tests major software upgrades in markets such as Brazil before rolling them out globally. The Moto G6 Plus’ Android Pie upgrade started yesterday, so it’s only a matter of time before the Moto G6 gets its slice of the Pie.
Galaxy Note 8 getting second Android Pie beta update
Samsung announced their open beta program for the Galaxy Note 8 last week and today; they just released a new Android Pie beta update for the build. The build weighs in at a hefty 705 MB and some with a load of bugfixes. There are, however, some issues that are yet to be addressed such as the People’s Edge panel triggering random reboots. Samsung says that they’ll be fixed in the next iteration.
Some of the issues addressed in the build are the ones with the camera app, the inability to download files to the microSD card, and files downloaded in Samsung Internet to the external storage not being saved. The update also deals with an issue that would freeze the screen after the user puts in their PIN to unlock the device. If you’re on the Android Pie beta on your Galaxy Note 8, you can download the new update by tapping the Download and install option in the Settings » Software update menu on the phone.
