Sprint will carry a 5G Samsung phone, likely the Galaxy S10

Sprint 5G Galaxy S10

Last month, Verizon announced that they will be carrying a Samsung 5G phone this year. AT&T followed that with their own announcement and upped the ante by saying they will have a second Samsung 5G phone. It’s largely believed that these phones will be the Samsung Galaxy S10 since Verizon specifically mentioned the “Qualcomm Snapdragon Mobile Platform with the Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem.” Sprint has now made a similar announcement of their own.

Sprint says their Samsung 5G phone will debut in the Summer. Verizon and AT&T both said their 5G devices would launch in the first half of the year as well (AT&T second device is slated for H2). It’s safe to assume Sprint’s device will also be the Galaxy S10. Sprint’s model will offer 5G on the 2.5GHz spectrum thanks to their Massive MIMO technology (AT&T and Verizon use mmWave technology). As you would expect, the device will also support LTE.

We still don’t know exactly which Galaxy S10 model will be launching with 5G on these carriers. The Galaxy S10 “Special Edition” model is rumored to have 5G along with 4 rear cameras and a 6.7-inch display. Previous reports pegged the 5G model for Spring 2019, which would line up with a Summer launch on carriers. 5G is going to be a big story in 2019 and Samsung is poised to be at the forefront. Sprint did not specify if the Samsung phone will be their first 5G device, but it certainly will be one of the first. We’re still waiting on T-Mobile to make a similar announcement.
