OxygenOS Open Beta 11/3 for the OnePlus 6/6T brings January patches and deeper Google Duo integration

OnePlus follows an Open Beta system for testing out updates on its devices. Once software features and improvements have been developed and tested internally by their team, it is rolled out in the form of an Open Beta for other interested users to try. The aim of the Open Beta program is to figure out bugs and other software glitches before the final update is released to the public at large in the form of a stable update. While Open Beta users see frequent updates, it does come with the risk of software instability.

OnePlus has now announced the release of OxygenOS Open Beta 11 for the OnePlus 6 and Open Beta 3 for the OnePlus 6T. The software releases are similar in their changelog, but cannot be installed interchangeably. The highlight of this update is the inclusion of the January 2019 security patch as well as deeper Google Duo integration in the Phone app.

The common changelog for the update is as below:

  • Phone
    • Messages now support landscape mode
    • Deep integration with Google Duo
  • Weather
    • Added more search options to improve the accuracy of search results
    • Weather descriptions more accurate
    • Added more unit options for precipitation, visibility, pressure and other data
    • Added more detailed descriptions to weather icons

In addition to this, the OnePlus 6T also gets an optimized UI in the File Manager app for unlocking lockbox.

If you have already flashed an Open Beta before, you will receive this new build as an OTA. If you aren’t and would like to switch from the Stable branch to the Open Beta branch, OnePlus has installation instructions to help you out. Moving back from Open Beta branch to the Stable branch will require a full data wipe, so keep that in mind before you make the jump.
