In an official presentation, NVIDIA has revealed their upcoming Turing GPUs which will be part of the new GeForce GTX Turing family of graphics cards. The teaser, which is more of a leak as the presentation wasn’t supposed to go public, was most probably given to AIB partners but someone managed to sneakily grab a picture and confirm the existence of the upcoming family once and for all.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX Turing Family Confirmed – Starting off With GeForce GTX 1660 Ti & GTX 1660
The NVIDIA presentation was given to AIBs (Videocardz) to ready their marketing department for the upcoming lineup which would include new Turing based graphics cards. The main difference is that while the existing Turing graphics cards are branded as GeForce RTX, the upcoming cards will be branded in the GeForce GTX family.
This indicates that the GeForce GTX family while using the same Turing GPU architecture, will not come with ray tracing cores. The first graphics cards in this family will be based on the TU116 GPU which is a derivative of the Turing TU106 GPU featured on the GeForce RTX 2060 and GeForce RTX 2070 graphics cards. While the Turing TU116 GPU is similar in CUDA core configuration, it may lack or disable the RT/Ray Tracing Cores which allow for better ray tracing performance than non-RTX GPUs.
It is not known whether the core will be based on the same die layout as much of the Turing (RTX) GPUs die space is dedicated to the Tensor and RT cores. If the die size ends up being smaller due to the non-addition of RT cores, we can end up looking at marginally better prices than the RTX counterparts. Of course, this is just speculation at the moment but some rumors do point this out.
Now as far as the graphics cards are concerned, we already did a roundup of the specifications in an exclusive piece that you can read over here. The word from Chinese sources is that the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, the fastest of the two TU116 variants, will be launching in February for a price around 2399 RMB which is roughly around $350 US. The GeForce GTX 1660 will be available a month later in March and would fall around $250 – $300 US.

The GeForce GTX 1660 TI is expected to feature 6 GB of GDDR6 (12 Gbps) memory and 1536 CUDA Cores with drastically higher clock speeds than the RTX 2060. The GeForce GTX 1660 is going to be available in both 6 GB and 3 GB models but is said to feature GDDR5 (8 Gbps) memory and 1280 CUDA cores. The clock speeds will still be higher than the RTX 2060. Both cards seem to be really interesting and would offer competition against the Radeon RX 590 from AMD which was launched recently.
Of course, we will wait for the reviews to see whether the exclusion of RT cores and GTX branding was really a great idea but if priced right, we can see the cards become a major success in the budget arena.
