Metro Exodus Goes Epic Games Store Exclusive, Resulting in a Price Cut

Another day, another Epic Games Store exclusivity announcement. The latest game to ditch Steam is one of the biggest yet – yes, the PC version of Metro Exodus will only be available through Epic. Deep Silver CEO Dr. Klemens Kundratitz had the following to say about the move.

“We’re delighted to partner with Epic to bring the digital PC version of Metro Exodus to market. Epic’s revenue terms are a game changer that will allow publishers to invest more into content creation, or pass on savings to the players. By teaming up with Epic we will be able to invest more into the future of Metro and our ongoing partnership with series developer 4A Games, to the benefit of our Metro fans.”

Epic CEO Tim Sweeney echoed Deep Silver’s excitement…

“Metro Exodus is amazing and is deservedly one of the most anticipated PC titles of 2019. We are partnering with Deep Silver to launch Metro Exodus, underpinned by Epic’s marketing support and commitment to offering an 88% revenue split.”

As Kundratitz mentions, Deep Silver isn’t just pocketing the extra cash generated by Epic’s generous 88 percent profit share – instead, they’re passing the savings along to consumers, and cutting the launch price of Metro Exodus to only $50. If more publishers did this, I think there’d be a lot less grumbling about the proliferation of Epic exclusives.

Wccftech’s Callum Agnew recently got to go hands-on with Metro Exodus and came away quite impressed

“Metro Exodus is a horrifying pleasure to play. It’s incredibly beautiful, one particular shot at night with the moon’s light beaming through the trees actually had me stop for a moment. I then got my back slashed open by a mutant bear. I suppose I should have used the photo mode.”

Metro Exodus arrives on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on February 15.
