LG‘s 5G-Ready Flagship Could Feature a Hefty Battery & Massive Cooling Solution to Offset Negative Attributes of Its Next-Gen Modem

LG is expected to launch various entry-level and premium smartphones at the upcoming Mobile World Congress that will take place in Barcelona, Spain next month. Of particular importance would be the rumored G8 and the company’s unnamed 5G-ready handset. The South Korean manufacturer has confirmed that its 5G-ready smartphone would make a debut at the trade show, which is not all that surprising as the company had revealed plans to develop a 5G-capable device back in August 2018.

LG’s 5G Smartphone Might Boast the Same Design as the LG V40 ThinQ

Major carriers in established markets across the world plan to start rolling out the next generation of wireless networks from this year and a lot of smartphone vendors have pledged to release 5G-ready devices this year. LG will be launching its 5G smartphone at the Center de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona (CCIB) on February 24. Apart from unveiling the launch date, the company has also revealed some key details about the phone.

The device will be fueled by Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 855 SoC, which is expected to offer a performance boost of nearly 45 percent over the Snapdragon 845 chipset. The company says that it had made the phone for the consumption of high volume content and perhaps that’s why it has been fitted with a gargantuan 4000mAh battery. It is around 20 percent larger than the 3300mAh battery that’s inside that V40 ThinQ, resulting in adequate battery endurance.

LG also said that its 5G-ready smartphone would have a vapor chamber which is 2.7x the size of the heat pipe that is currently found in the V40 ThinQ. Since 5G technology will most likely generate higher temperatures than the current-generation technology, it is commendable that LG will address the issue by employing an advanced thermal solution.

Beyond that, LG hasn’t revealed any details about the phone. Since the company made a lot of references to the LG V40 ThinQ, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the 5G smartphone feature the same design as the former. The phone will most likely be a Sprint exclusive in the U.S. and the company is said to be in talks with various operators in Europe to launch the flagship.
