Lenovo announces a Google Assistant Smart Clock and Amazon Alexa Smart Tabs

Lenovo was one of the first companies to release a Google Assistant Smart Display. They beat Google to the punch with the Lenovo Smart Display in July. Now, at CES 2019, Lenovo has announced a new batch of Google Assistant and Alexa-enabled smart devices. The Lenovo Smart Clock is a smaller alternative to the Google Home Hub, while the Smart Tabs are dockable tablets with Amazon Alexa built-in.

Lenovo Smart Clock

The Lenovo Smart Display and Google Home Hub have 7-10-inch displays, which may be a bit large for some situations. A popular place for these smart display devices is the nightstand next to your bed, but not everyone has the space for a 10-inch device. The Lenovo Smart Clock features a compact 4-inch display with all the same functionality.

The size makes this a great modern replacement for an alarm clock. You can use your voice to set alarms, listen to music, and see details about your day. It also supports the gentle wake-up routine. The design of the device is reminiscent of Google’s design language with soft-touch fabric covering all sides. There is a USB port on the back for charging other devices, a mute mic button, and no camera.

Lenovo Smart Tabs

The Lenovo Smart Tabs are interesting devices. They are Android tablets that can be docked to become Amazon Alexa smart displays. While in use as a tablet, it’s a fairly standard Android Oreo tablet. But when docked, the UI switches to the Show Mode that you would see on the Amazon Echo Show.

There are two Smart Tab models: Smart Tab M10 and P10. They have the same processor and display, but the P10 is equipped with more RAM, more storage, bigger battery, better cameras, and a fingerprint scanner. The Smart Dock itself includes 2 3W full-range speakers, 3 far-field microphones, a mute button, and volume buttons.
