Leaked OnePlus 7 prototype has a bezel-less slider design

The past year was characterized by the many ways in which OEMs tried to shrink down the bezels. Most OEMs preferred to opt for the notch, while others experimented with a variety of ways around it. The coming year, we are going to be seeing more of such innovation, as OEMs continue throwing ideas at the wall, just to see what clicks with the consumers.

A new leak came up during the weekend, showing off what looks like a new OnePlus device that incorporates a slider design mechanism to beat the notch.

The picture contains two devices in cases that are meant to hide their identities. The device on the right appears to be the OnePlus 6T, thanks to its water drop notch, icons, widgets and wallpaper setup.

The device on the left is a currently unknown device, which sports a similar icon and widget setup. This device is likely a OnePlus 7 prototype, with a disguise case to hide its physical features during the internal testing phase. The case itself has cutouts for a camera and other sensors, but these aren’t currently visible. This indicates that the phone has a slider mechanism, which houses the front facing camera inside the device when not in use. With this slider mechanism and the lack of a notch, this leaked prototype device delivers a bezel-less experience, even if you discard the apparently thin bezels on the sides as being a byproduct of the disguise case. If you look closely, you can also spot a red colored button, which we presume is the Alert Slider, on the right side of the device, sitting above the power button. The case has cutouts for the volume buttons on the left side of the device.

Do keep in mind that the OnePlus 7 would still be in stages of development, so it is best to consider this as a prototype rather than a final product. It is also unclear at this stage if the OnePlus 5G phone will sport the same design as the OnePlus 7. The OnePlus 7 will obviously come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC as well as the Warp Charge 30 technology found in the OnePlus 6T McLaren edition. Since the next OnePlus flagship is still a few months away, things can still change by the time we get our hands on some more reliable leaks.
