According to the YouTube channel Andro News who got their hands on a pre-production unit of the Pixel 3 Lite, there were some interesting decisions made when Google’s team decided to make this. Firstly, because the Pixel 3 Lite will reportedly be a cheaper version of the Pixel 3, the video states the handset sports a plastic body, meaning it will not provide Qi wireless charging support either. However, the Pixel 3 Lite retains the headphone jack since Google might have figured that this is something customers on a more tighter budget desire. After all, it saves them on purchasing dongles and Bluetooth earphones.
The device does not feature an in-screen fingerprint reader, but a physical one that’s mounted at the rear. Google might have opted to use an IPS LCD screen on the Pixel 3 Lite to further reduce manufacturing costs, but if the company’s color science is on point, even an LCD panel can work wonders if you want to use the device for media consumption.
The hands-on video also details that there’s just a single front-facing camera on the Pixel 3 Lite, compared to two sensors on the Pixel 3 or Pixel 3 XL. Earlier leaked camera samples are decent, showing that Google might not skimp out and incorporate a low-end sensor. The video also claims that the cheaper Pixel 3 Lite takes the same quality images as the more premium Pixel 3.
As for the launch date, the small video says that the Pixel 3 Lite is expected to launch after Google’s I/O 2019 event, but it will still be running Android 9 Pie. This means that we should focus on the March, April or May to see if the Pixel 3 Lite will be unveiled during any one of these months.
