It’s refreshing to see a new name in the midst of all the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus Android Pie rollouts. Xfinity had the honour of being the first US-based carrier to update their devices, followed by Verizon and then most recently; Sprint. AT&T joins that list today as several users confirmed receiving the Android Pie update on their Galaxy S9 on Reddit.
Samsung Galaxy Note 9 users on AT&T have a surprise in store for them too. Today, the carrier becomes the one of the ‘big four’ to deploy a Note 9 Pie update. Global variants of the Galaxy Note 9 have already received the update, so it comes as no surprise. A Reddit user first spotted the update and several others confirmed that they received theirs in the same thread.
The update hitting phones clocks in at 1.8GB for the Note 9 and about 1.9GB for the S9 and comes with all the standard Pie goodies along with a Samsung’s new OneUI UX. AT&T’s update servers appear to be bogged down, so it may take a while to download. It’s well worth the wait, though. You get a system-wide Dark Theme, a redesigned camera app and loads of QoL changes.
There is no word about the larger S9+ receiving the update on AT&T just yet, but it shouldn’t be too far behind. The only carrier left behind is T Mobile, and we can expect them to dole out slices of the Pie in the next few days. Judging by the speed at which carrier-locked devices are getting their update, the deployment should be done by mid-February for all Galaxy S9 and Note 9 devices. Their unlocked counterparts, however, might have to wait a bit longer as there is an open beta ongoing for the devices. All in all, Samsung seems to have stuck to their Android Pie roadmap so far.
