Alleged Google Hardware Codenamed ‘Coral’ Spotted at Geekbench – Pixel 4 Being Tested With Snapdragon 855?

Pixel 4

It’s only been a handful of months since Google launched the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, so it will take a while before the tech giant even teases an unveiling of both their successors. However, if the latest Geekbench scores are to be believed, the company might be testing out new hardware using Qualcomm’s latest chipset. The latest results underline that a lot of tweaking is required, which you’ll see shortly.

Latest Test Device Spotted Running Android Q, as Well as 6GB of RAM

The alleged device is codenamed ‘Coral’ and the single-core and multi-core test results indicate that the device is using a Snapdragon 855. The single-core result obtained 3296 points, which is impressive and suggests Qualcomm’s latest 7nm FinFET SoC being used, but the multi-core results are rather disappointing. In an extensive benchmark report highlighting the Snapdragon 855’s performance, a reference device obtained 11000+ points on the multi-core side. This might provide more evidence that the device is still in testing phase and will require some performance tweaking.

Also, Geekbench reports that the device is running Android Q. This could be a leaked build that’s being tested for bugs and issues to phase out and polish the software update before its imminent launch. After all, there have been several features belonging to Google’s next OS update that have leaked prior to its release, including a desktop mode. There’s still a significant amount of time remaining for the Pixel 4 to launch, with the new lineup expected in October of this year.

In the previous weeks, Google has been rumored to launch a cheaper Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 Lite XL, both of which will have less powerful internal specifications than the more premium series and a plastic build. For now, it’s best to take these scores with a pinch of salt, as it’s too early to determine if it this is the Pixel 4 or not. However, if this was the Pixel 4, then this is just the start of more leaks to come.

Also, we’re hoping Google improves the design of its upcoming smartphone series and when we say improve, we emphasize reducing the size of the notch.
