ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER Graphics Cards Smile For The Camera – Feature 6 GB GDDR6 VRAM, Dual Fan Cooling

NVIDIA GeForce Super Graphics Card

NVIDIA is soon going to introduce their GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER series graphics cards which are positioned against the mainstream Navi lineup arriving soon. The NVIDIA GTX 1660 SUPER series has seen various leaks and the latest includes pictures of ZOTAC's custom models that have been leaked by Videocardz.

In our previous report, we talked about how the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER would offer the newer GDDR6 memory interface while retaining the rest of the specifications. In terms of specs, the GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER would utilize the TU116-300 die, same as the existing GeForce GTX 1660. It would feature the same core config of 1408 CUDA cores, 80 TMUs, and 48 ROPs. The clock speeds are not mentioned but those can get a slight bump. The major change to the graphics card would be the memory design.

From the pictures posted by Videocardz, it looks like ZOTAC will be offering two variants, a regular dual-fan and a slightly more premium Ice Storm 2.0 (AMP!) variant. The difference between both cards is very minor with the Ice Storm variant featuring a slightly better heatsink and a backplate. Both of the cards will offer four display outputs which include three Display Port and a single HDMI port. ZOTAC will also offer a full aluminum based heatsink that features three 6mm heat pipes. Just like the ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1660, the GTX 1660 SUPER would also rock a single 8-pin connector which is very standard of mainstream cards these days.

While the GeForce GTX 1660 features 6 GB of GDDR5 memory running at 8 Gbps, the GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER would feature 6 GB of GDDR6 memory running at 14 Gbps. This memory is faster than the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti which features 12 Gbps dies. The memory would be featured along a 192-bit bus interface and deliver a total bandwidth of 336 GB/s.

Performance-wise, the GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER could end up around 5-10% better than the GTX 1660 which puts it right under the GTX 1660 Ti. The Radeon RX 5500 XT while cheaper, is also a bit slower than the GTX 1660 SUPER based on its specifications that were released this week. The RX 5500 series is simply aimed at a different price market and competes against the more budget tier GTX 1650 graphics card. On that front, NVIDIA has plans to launch the GeForce GTX 1650 Ti/SUPER soon.

Also, it would be interesting to see what pricing NVIDIA has in mind for the GTX 1660 SUPER. The GeForce GTX 1660 currently costs $229 US while the Ti variant costs $249 US. There are two ways this could go, either NVIDIA decides to end production of the GTX 1660 and replace it with the SUPER variant like they did with the most of the high-end RTX SUPER lineup or they could offer both, the SUPER and non-SUPER variant at different price points. In the case of the former, we would get the GTX 1660 SUPER at the same price of $229 US and in the second case, we could get a slight price bump of around $249 US.

Which upcoming budget graphics cards do you think are more interesting?
