OnePlus 8 Will Feature Snapdragon 865, Better 5G Courtesy X55 Modem

Earlier this month, OnePlus updated the OnePlus 7 with the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro. OnePlus is eager to ensure that is smartphones aren't behind any other high-end gadget when considering specifications and features. The latest smartphones come with all the required qualifications for a high-end gadget; 5G, 90Hz refresh, super-wide camera sensor, you name it and a OnePlus 7/7T variant has got it. Now, we've got a report hinting at OnePlus' plans for the OnePlus 8. Take a look below for more details.

OnePlus Looking To Equip OnePlus 8 & OnePlus 8 Pro With 5G Enabled By Qualcomm's Snapdragon X55 Modem

OnePlus' long-term goal is to establish itself as a flagship smartphone provider in the American market. To that end, the company has managed to penetrate the carrier-driven US market, but it isn't as popular as it'd like. 2019 is OnePlus' strongest year to date when talking about the quality of devices offered, as the company managed to make the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro look outdated after the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro were made official.

Today we've got a report from the Chinese social network Weibo. This report hints at OnePlus' plans for the OnePus 8, and if it's true then the company will become an early passenger on the 5G train. OnePlus introduced 5G on the OnePlus 7 Pro but it chose to skip the feature on the OnePlus 7T Pro.

Qualcomm's Snapdragon X55 Modem

According to the details, OnePlus is looking forward to equip the OnePlus 8 with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 865 SoC. Additionally, the company will also enable 5G support on the smartphone; support that's better than what's offered on the OnePlus 7 Pro. This will be the courtesy of newer hardware, as the OnePlus 8, or the OnePlus 8 Pro, or both as OnePlus is looking to equip its next smartphones with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X55 modem.

The Snapdragon X55 is Qualcomm's second generation stand-alone 5G modem, that's designed to function separately from the SoC on a mobile device. As opposed to the X50, the X55 is capable of functioning solely on 5G networks without resorting to using signals from LTE transmitters for functions such as calls. Additionally, the X55 can also use a single chip to communicate with 5G, LTE, 3G and 2G network. This will eliminate the need for separate radios on a smartphone, driving down costs and improving battery life in the process.
