No Snapdragon 855 Plus for Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL

Google’s slew of announcements will take place in a few hours, and a lot of eyeballs should be focused on the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. Since both of them are flagships, we expect them to be treated to top-tier hardware, but here’s the thing. In case you didn’t know, Qualcomm announced not one, but two high-end mobile chipsets for 2019 and if you were interesting in knowing about the Pixel 4 internals, we may have some bad news, depending on how you look at it. That being said, Qualcomm President has pretty much confirmed the Snapdragon 855 Plus won’t be powering the two models, but that’s not really a disadvantage.

According to an image shared by Antonio Sabán on Twitter, Qualcomm Present Cristiano R. Amon spilled the beans on which chipset is running in the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. Spoiler; it isn’t the Snapdragon 855 Plus, but the Snapdragon 855 instead. For those of you who may be upset upon hearing this news, the only changes Qualcomm made with the more powerful SoC is increase the clock speeds on the processor and GPU side. In short, it’s highly unlikely that you’ll see a radical shift in performance during real-world usage, but if you’re the kind of customer that only desires the latest and greatest, perhaps it’s time to look for a suitable alternative. For a lot of you, the rumored 90Hz refresh rate running on both the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL coupled with the stock Android UI should present an enjoyable experience.
