Microsoft Updates Windows 10 1903 and 1909 Processor Requirements

Windows 10 CPU Requirements

Ahead of the release of Windows 10 November 2019 Update, version 1909, Microsoft has updated the processor requirements for Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm for new hardware that will ship running Windows 10 1903 or 1909. Since Windows 10 1909 is effectively an extension of version 1903, these specs will work for both the versions.

"The processors listed in the tables below, represent the latest processor generations and models which are supported for the listed Windows Edition," Microsoft writes. "Previous generations of processors and models (indicated by "Up through"), remain supported in addition to the listed processors and models."

Windows 10 CPU requirements for the upcoming version 1909

The latest update to Windows 10 processor requirements document adds new generations of chips, including Intel's 10th generation Core processors, in the supported list. For Intel, the newly updated document now mentions the following supported chips:

Up through the following 10th Generation Intel Processors (Intel Core i3/i5/i7/i9-10xxx), and Intel Xeon E-22xx, Intel Atom (J4xxx/J5xxx and N4xxx/N5xxx), Celeron and Pentium Processors

For AMD, Windows 10 CPU requirements include:

Up through the following AMD 7th Generation Processors (A-Series Ax-9xxx & E-Series Ex-9xxx & FX-9xxx); AMD Athlon 2xx processors, AMD Ryzen 3/5/7 3xxx, AMD Opteron[2] and AMD EPYC 7xxx[2]

And for Qualcomm, Microsoft mentions both the Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 and 8cx (8cx was excluded prior to the release of May 2019 Update earlier this year).

Microsoft is readying the upcoming Windows 10 November 2019 Update for public release. It is likely that the next version will be delivered on or before November 12th. The company has focused solely on performance improvements and OS stability for the upcoming feature upgrade, which will also be the first Windows 10 feature upgrade delivered like a monthly cumulative update for those who update from version 1903.
