iPhone SE 2 Once More Rumored to Get iPhone 8 Design, Powerful Internals & a 2020 Launch

iPhone SE 2 Launch Could Happen in 2020; Cheaper Price, A13 Bionic Expected

The appetite for pricey phones has gone down in the last few years, forcing vendors like Google and Samsung to churn out upper-mid tier phones. Apple is all set to follow suit, as more evidence is piling about the iPhone SE 2 launch. A new report ties in nicely with previous leaks that suggested an announcement could happen next year.

iPhone SE 2 Could House an LCD Screen and Touch ID to Reduce Manufacturing Costs While Still Providing Capable Hardware for a 2020 Device

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is now back with more details concerning the iPhone SE 2 launch, and other details. He predicts, the cheaper device will be out by the first quarter of 2020. As was the case with the original iPhone SE, this one is also expected to cost less than the rest of the lineup. The phone will supposedly get this year’s A13 Bionic which will be paired with 3GB of RAM. As for the design, it’s expected to be similar to that of the iPhone 8.

Kuo believes that with the iPhone SE 2 launch, Apple will be targeting the existing iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users who will not mind going without multiple cameras and the convenience of Face ID. This implies that the iPhone SE 2 will have a single sensor on the back and retain Touch ID. Such consumers will presumably be more interested in the faster chipset and the latest version of iOS, which they cannot upgrade to right now due to having date devices.

With the iPhone SE 2 launch, Apple can expect to increase its market share considerably, which has steadily been declining, according to industry watchers. Previous rumors have claimed the iPhone SE 2 is expected to sport a 4.7-inch LCD display and while the price is not known, it will likely be somewhere around the $400 mark. When the phone is launched, Apple might discontinue the iPhone 8, since it wouldn’t make sense to have two similar phones in the range.

Currently, the iPhone 8 is Apple’s most affordable device in the technology giant’s lineup, with a starting price of $449. Apparently, this price is still too high for budget-conscious consumers in important markets like India and China. By offering a lower-spec’d phone at an attractive price, Apple could hope to win over consumers who are currently being attracted to Chinese brands, which offer more features and have paired the handset with a competitive price as well.
