Co-Op Strategy Game A Year of Rain Launch Date Announced

Earlier this year I was able to look at Daedalic Entertainments A Year of Rain. In my preview, I explained a few of my reservations, particularly with the game being very much co-op and multiplayer-focused. Strategy games aren’t generally the realm of co-op or multiplayer, or to be more precise the campaigns and stories of the genre aren’t usually made with that in mind.

Now, this doesn’t mean the game isn’t fun. I was also able to have a hands-on at Gamescom and, like with my time at Daedalic Entertainment, I was able to use the same tactics to win the battle I was in. You use your ally to distract the opposition, overstretch them, go for a flanking-attack and wipe out their bases. Simple, easy and time-tested tactics that will rarely, if ever, fail.

A Year of Rain has now been confirmed for an Early Access launch on Steam, on Wednesday the 6th of November, with a new gameplay trailer designed to support the announcement. In addition to the Early Access launch date and trailer, Daedalic has also revealed a little more information about the game, which you can read in the blurb below.

Daedalic has also revealed the first story details about the harsh and brutal world in which A Year Of Rain is set. Desolate environments offer limited resources, and any prize you do find, you’ll have to fight for. The battle for survival and the drums of war are all its people know. Two friends, a paladin of the morning sun and the son of a powerful noble house, set out to break the cycle and bring peace to these war-torn lands. A Year Of Rain tells their story and the sacrifices they must make for a better future against those who do not share their vision of civilization and those chained to unlife, doomed to fight forever.

Combining classic real-time strategy elements with a strong focus on teamplay and hero units, A Year Of Rain’s co-op campaigns and online and offline modes are designed with a team of two players in mind. The classic 2v2 “Skirmish” mode has been developed from the very beginning to encourage competition across the entire spectrum of skill levels. Meanwhile, the ‘Against All Odds’ mode is an innovation in the genre, where two lone heroes face two entire armies in an escalating fight for survival.

If you want to actually get hands-on with the game, which I would certainly recommend, if only to try it out, you can actually register for the closed beta which is running right now. To register for a key, just visit the website – https://beta.ayearofrain.com/.
