We recently talked about the Radeon RX 5500M and RX5300M along with benchmarks, and it looks like Videocardz has received confirmation of their desktop counterparts as well – which will be announced on the 7th of October (next Monday). AMD will be holding a press call today to brief journalists about their new Navi cards.
AMD (soft) launching 7nm RDNA based Radeon RX 5500 with 22 CUs and GDDR6
AMD demoed the cards against the old Polaris series which this is expected to replace and features 22 CUs for the RX 5500. This translates to 1408 stream processors – the same as NVIDIA’s 1660 Ti – but based on the fact that AMD Navi GPU is built on the 7nm process, it is expected to clock higher. Simple maths would tell you that this would mean NVIDIA is in for some serious competition.
According to the same post by WhyCry, the GTX 1660 SUPER and GTX 1650 Ti (NVIDIA’s answer to the RX 5500 and RX5300 respectively) are going to be coming out on October 29th, not long after AMD has (soft) launched its brand new Navi 14 GPUs. As far as availability goes, there is no specific date yet and we are just hearing “later during the quarter” right now. Pricing is not confirmed as well but based on AMD’s historical trend, you are probably looking at the $179 mark.
Interestingly, the RX5500 is expected to feature GDDR6. We know for a fact that the RX5500M features GDDR6 so this is something to be expected. According to Videocardz.com, the Radeon RX5500M will have a 4GB and 8GB variant, both of which will be limited by a 128-bit bus (the primary bottleneck on this card).

NVIDIA has yet to shift to a sub-10nm process, which means AMD has an excellent window of opportunity to strike while the metal is hot. AMD is planning to roll out mobility GPUs based on the 7nm process that will not only feature GDDR6 (giving them an advantage over competitors like the GTX 1650) but will actually out-clock NVIDIA! This is something that I haven’t seen for quite some time but based on the slides and information we received, AMD’s mobility GPUs are actually going to be clocked higher than NVIDIA counterparts by quite a margin.
Our source was able to give us the specifications for one of the GPUs: the Radeon RX 5500M. The Radeon RX 5500M mobility GPU is based on the RDNA architecture and will have 1408 cores. It will feature GDDR6 memory clocked at 14Gbps (we aren’t sure of the exact capacity). The GPU will be able to boost up to 1645 MHz. Our source tells us this will be positioned to go up against the GTX 1650 – which is based on the 12nm process, rocks the older GDDR5 standard, features only 1024 cores and boosts up to 1560 MHz.
