YouTube TV Is Now Available on the Following Amazon Fire TV Devices

YouTube TV

The very public spat between Google and Amazon appears to be coming to an end, much to the relief of end-users. Amazon’s refusal to stock Google Products on its marketplace prompted Google to pull the YouTube app from all Fire TV devices. The main YouTube app made its way to Fire TV devices last month, and today, it’s YouTube TV’s turn. Amazon announced in a blog post that the YouTube TV app would be available on select Fire TV devices that are listed as follows:

  • Fire TV Stick (2nd Gen),
  • Fire TV Stick 4K,
  • Fire TV Cube, all Toshiba,
  • Insignia, Element, Westinghouse Fire TV Edition smart TVs
  • Fire TV Cube (1st Gen)
  • Fire TV (2nd Gen)
  • Fire TV (3rd Gen)

Unfortunately, the app is not compatible with Fire TV Stick (1st Gen) and Fire TV (1st Gen). It is unclear if they’ll get support at a later time, but this is a good start. The YouTube TV app is available to customers living in the US only. It is unlikely to be available in other regions as the service is US-only for now.

YouTube TV isn’t quite there yet in terms of content and offers a somewhat barebones TV experience. It’ll be a while before it can replace cable television in its entirety. One feature that does stand out, however, is its cloud-based DVR storage. It lets you have six accounts per household, so each member of the family can have their DVR and personalized recommendations.

The only YouTube app missing is on Fire TV devices is now YouTube Kids. It should get here before the year ends, ideally. I don’t think Google is in much of a hurry about it either. YouTube Kids is nowhere close to as popular as the main app so it’s not like Fire Stick users are clamoring for the app.
