Snapdragon 865 Not Launching Tomorrow (Probably)

5G real world speeds are insanely fast

We’ve got an interesting report today that speculates on the launch of Qualcomm’s next flagship Snapdragon SoC. The San Diego chip giant generally waits until November or December before taking the wraps off of its Snapdragon 8xx series; a trend that it started after the Snapdragon 820 & 821. Now, the company might be shaking things up as far as launch timelines are concerned. Take a look below for more details.

Qualcomm’s Weibo Asks Followers To Watch Out For ‘Good News’ On September 24th – Snapdragon 865 Incoming?

Talk about making mountains out of molehills. Recently, Qualcomm posted a cryptic poster on its Weibo account that asked viewers to anticipate good news on the 24th of September i.e. tomorrow. Naturally, some in the Western press jumped at the moment to speculate that the company might be hinting at the Snapdragon 865 launch, despite no credible reason to believe so.

As Mydrivers notes, four new mobile launches are set for the 24th in China. These are the Xiaomi Mix Alpha, Xiaomi 9 Pro 5G, Realme X2 and Xperia 5. Unlike it’s Twitter counterpart in the US, Qualcomm’s Weibo is actively involved in informing users about upcoming devices that house the company’s processors.

Therefore, it’s only likely that as the date mentioned in the teaser falls in line with the upcoming launches, that Qualcomm is promoting its Snapdragon Elite Gaming platform in China instead of hinting at the launch of the Snapdragon 865.  Not that we’d fault the company if it went ahead and launched the processor early this year. After all, Apple’s sneaky iPhone launch timeframes often end up confusing users about which Android processors and devices they can compare with the new iPhones.

If this doesn’t make sense, then you’ll need to know that while Apple makes impressive gains with the iPhone 11 lineup’s A13 chip, a true comparison of the company’s high-end mobile SoC cannot be made with what Android has to offer until Qualcomm makes the Snapdragon 865 official. The A13 is the first (or second if we count the Kirin 990) of the new line of processors that will power upcoming gadgets. Now, if Qualcomm would just go ahead and launch the Snapdragon 865 already so we can dig in deep with the comparisons.
