NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER & GeForce GTX 1650 Ti Expected To Launch in October – Two New GTX Turing Mainstream Cards For The Masses

NVIDIA is preparing two cards for launch in October, the GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER & the GeForce GTX 1650 Ti. Both cards are going to tackle AMD’s upcoming mainstream Navi lineup which is also expected to launch next month.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER & GTX 1650 Ti Launching in October – Two GTX Turings Against Navi 14

There’s no doubt that October will be a major battleground for both NVIDIA and AMD. Both rivals will have their mainstream options out for the masses and the ones offering better performance per dollar and performance per watt will be able to make it out of the onslaught. NVIDIA’s Turing based GeForce GTX cards, especially the GTX 1660 and GTX 1660 TI have been decent performers so far but NVIDIA intends to launch a SUPER variant of the regular non-TI GTX 1660 graphics card. The latest report comes from Videcoardz who have spotted four ASUS variants of the GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER, the DUAL, EVO, Phoenix and TUF3.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER – Upgraded With GDDR6 Memory

In our previous report, we talked about how the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER would offer the newer GDDR6 memory interface while retaining the rest of the specifications. In terms of specs, the GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER would utilize the TU116-300 die, same as the existing GeForce GTX 1660. It would feature the same core config of 1408 CUDA cores, 80 TMUs, and 48 ROPs. The clock speeds are not mentioned but those can get a slight bump. The major change to the graphics card would be the memory design.

While the GeForce GTX 1660 features 6 GB of GDDR5 memory running at 8 Gbps, the GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER would feature 6 GB of GDDR6 memory running at 14 Gbps. This memory is faster than the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti which features 12 Gbps dies. The memory would be featured along a 192-bit bus interface and deliver a total bandwidth of 336 GB/s.

Now if NVIDIA decides to bump up the GPU clock speeds too then the card would be nearing the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti considering that the latter is just 10% faster than the non-Ti variant. The card would end up around 15% faster than the Radeon RX 590 on average and considering the Navi 14 performance leaks we have seen so far, it would be a pretty decent offering unless AMD wants to offer an even lower-priced card with their Navi 14 lineup.

Also, it would be interesting to see what pricing NVIDIA has in mind for the GTX 1660 SUPER. The GeForce GTX 1660 currently costs $229 US while the Ti variant costs $249 US. There are two ways this could go, either NVIDIA decides to end production of the GTX 1660 and replace it with the SUPER variant like they did with the most of the high-end RTX SUPER lineup or they could offer both, the SUPER and non-SUPER variant at different price points. In the case of the former, we would get the GTX 1660 SUPER at the same price of $229 US and in the second case, we could get a slight price bump of around $249 US.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti – Covering The Sub-$200 US Segment With Full TU117

The other card that NVIDIA is working on is the GeForce GTX 1650 Ti. This card also saw leaks of several custom variants from ASUS. We don’t have the specifications but based on what we are looking at on the GeForce GTX 1650, the GeForce GTX 1650 could feature 1024 CUDA Cores, 32 ROPs and 64 TMUs. The card would feature a 4 GB GDDR5 VRAM running across a 128-bit bus at the same 8000 MHz effective clock speeds, delivering bandwidth of 128 GB/s. Now the TDP on the GTX 1650 is set at 75W but we can also see a similar TDP for the GTX 1650 Ti. This has been the case with the previous GTX *50 series cards too with both Ti and non-TI variants featuring a similar TDP that doesn’t require an external power connector to boot.

Just like the GeForce GTX 1650, the GTX 1650 Ti would be available in various custom models, with most featuring a 6-pin power connector to allow for higher factory shipped overclocks. The card is said to be priced around 1100 Chinese Yen or $150 US. Since the GTX 1650 is already positioned at $149 US, I personally believe that the Ti variant would cost an extra $30 for around $179 US. Lower price is only possible if NVIDIA plans to price cut the GTX 1650 which hasn’t happened so far so the speculated pricing is more accurate.

Provided that the card is 10-15% faster than the GeForce GTX 1650 (non-Ti), we could see slightly better performance than the Radeon RX 570 (8 GB variant) while sipping in much lower power & running at much lower temperatures. NVIDIA could add in a game bundle to sweeten up the deal but we have to wait to see if they really do till the official launch. Also, it would be really interesting to see how NVIDIA markets the new GeForce GTX Turing cards as their CEO has already stated that buying a GPU without Ray Tracing in 2019 is crazy.

Which upcoming budget graphics cards do you think are more interesting?
